Latin American Poultry MarketAccording to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the world annual chicken production reaches 75 million tons compared to 65 million tons of eggs produced yearly (source year: 2007). Latin America and the Caribbean alone produce approximately 20 million tons of chicken and 8 million tons eggs. These numbers represent, respectively, 59% and 40% of the continent' whole production and 27% and 13% of the world's whole production (source: FAO: year 2006). Exports from Latin America and the Caribbean rose to 2.8 million tons of meat chicken and 3900 million tons of eggs and egg-products, amounting to US$ 10 million and US$ 29 million respectively (source: FAO: year 2006). In the world context, Latin America and the Caribbean supplied 35% of the total chicken meat and 1% of the total egg and egg-product production imported for consumption. Preliminary estimates for 2007 and 2008 show that Latin America is taking a big portion of the total poultry share, Brazil and Argentina being on top and leading the South American business. The Latin American Poultry Congresses bring together Latin American and Caribbean poultry industry and business people; these events have then become the preferred meeting point where poultry industry providers do business with 30% of the world largest consumers of industry supplies, raw materials, genetic innovation, equipment and services.
The XXII Latin American Poultry CongressAlong with ALA the other two leading organizations of the poultry business in Argentina: the Cámara Argentina de Productores Avícolas (CAPIA) and the Centro de Empresas Procesadoras Avícolas (CEPA) will be the organizing bodies of the XXII Latin American Poultry Congress to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2011. More than 3,000 participants (of which 2,600 will come from Latin America and the Caribbean) are expected to attend this major poultry event. The 2011 Congress will be held September 6-9 in La Rural (www.larural.com.ar), the largest convention center in the country. La Rural is also the selected venue for the annual Argentine agricultural exhibition, an event that attracts more than 2 million visitors per year in four weeks.
Since noon , and in parallel with congress academic activities, the exhibition hall will open for visitors, The exhibition area will cover more than 15,000 square meters, of which 8,000 will be dedicated to commercial booths, All industry key exhibitors offering genetic solutions, equipment, nutrition packages, health and other related services will attend.
For a good number of reasons, the exhibition running parallel to the poultry congress will be unique:
We expect to gather at least 200 exhibitors from all over the world, especially from the Western Hemisphere, Europe and Asia, We estimate that 1,000 people (half of them suppliers and half of them customers) will be seeking new business poultry opportunities in the congress.
